Frequently Asked Questions
Where are you located?
2022 has been a big year for us! We’ve established our new roastery space in Northern Philadelphia and have also opened up our first coffee shop in Lansdowne, PA. Please visit us at Camellia Coffee House at 20 N. Lansdowne Ave, Lansdowne, PA to enjoy your favorite coffee by Nilaa.
We’re also at a few farmers’ market throughout the year. Follow us on Instagram @nilaacoffee or go to our Find Us page on the menu bar for updates on where you can check us out.
Do you sell ground coffee?
We sell our coffee as whole beans to ensure the best quality for each cup of coffee. We do offer complimentary grinding upon request for those who do not have a grinder. Send us a message requesting ground coffee or include a note in your order at checkout with your preferred brew method.
Are your coffees fair trade?
We pay between $2.50 and $5.50 per pound for our coffees, well above the Fairtrade minimum price of $1.40 for arabica beans, and perform our due diligence to ensure that everyone along the value chain is able to support their families and re-invest back into their farms and communities, so that we can continue to bring you sustainable coffees for years to come.
I prefer dark (or medium or light) roast. Which coffee is best for me?
With our specialty grade coffee, we tailor the roast specific to the bean in order to bring out the full tasting notes in each cup of coffee. Generally, our coffees will be light/medium roast to deliver the full potential flavors of the coffee and its natural sweetness. Each origin and lot is different, but we’re confident you will find something to your liking. Please send us a message with your questions and preferences and we will recommend the best coffees for you.
What does ‘Nilaa’ mean?
‘Nilaa’ is Burmese for ‘sapphire’, and the nickname I gave my wife when I was studying the Burmese language as it is a common name in Myanmar.
