This coffee has a depth and richness that makes it ideal as an espresso or a French press, but a delicate balance and nuance that will shine through as a drip or pour over as well.
It’s finally back! Ratnagiri Estate is located just north of Chikmagalur in the Southwestern state of Karnataka; close to Bababudangiri, where coffee in India first originated. The Patre family has looked after the farm since the 1920’s, and they have always made environmental sustainability a priority. Divya and Ashok Patre are third generation farmers, and they have invested in several experimental processes to bring out the unique flavor profiles of their coffees. This particular lot has been fully washed and soaked for a longer fermentation, resulting in more complex flavor notes, balance and a deep body. Ratnagiri means ‘Pearl Mountain’ and gets this name from the dense Silver Oak trees that tower over its coffee plants, lending a silver hue to the hills where the farm sits. This is a Rainforest Alliance certified farm. We have been fortunate enough to have a multi-year purchasing relationship with Mr. Patre and Ratnagiri Estate; and this year’s crop is the best we’ve tried yet.
