Tablon de Gomez (Colombia)

This coffee caught us by surprise with its juicy red fruit and sweetness. While we would never pass up a drip or pourover of this, it must also be tried as an espresso.

Tablon de Gomez is one of the most important coffee growing regions in Narino, and maybe all of Colombia. In this area, coffee has made an amazing impact and positive difference in quality of life. Small holder producers here focus primarily on coffee, interspersing their coffee with other fruit trees like avocado and lemon, which are also used as shade trees. Many farmers in Tablon also raise free range animals like chickens, pigs and the like whose manure and consumption contribute to an integrated ecosystem.

This community lot is meticulously blended from many small farmers in the area, which is no small feat to re-create the terroir that would be evident in a single farm. The coffee is pulped then fully washed to remove any mucilage, then dried on patios and raised beds for almost two weeks.

Our import partner, Red Fox Coffee, has been working in this area for almost 10 years now, and they have helped build strong market access for this community where they can now get premium rates for their coffee and continue to build a strong community.
